Burning of 48 tons 600 kg of poppy seeds suitable for growing

On July 2003 customs officials of “Bara” customs post seized 48 600 kg of poppy-seeds suitable for growing which were being transported by transit through the Azerbaijan territory from the Kandahar, Afghanistan to Delhi, India with the documents containing false information. According to the experts, these poppy seeds were subject to be plated on the area of 11.226 ha. Further, they were burnt in the presence of the members of the State Commission, international organizations, ambassadors accredited in Azerbaijan and mass media.

During 1996 — 2005 years customs officials by the initiative of border customhouses discovered and burnt more than 235 ton of hemp plants in their customs zones.

Meeting of the Working Group on Combating Terrorism
The meeting was held under the presidency of a new Chairman of the WGCTOC, Deputy Minister of Internal Affairs of Georgia Mr. Georgiy Lordkipanidze with the participation also of Deputy Minister of Internal Affairs of the Republic of Azerbaijan Mr. Vilayat Eyvazov, Deputy Minister of Internal Affairs of Ukraine Mr. Vasiliy Marmazov, Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary of the Republic of Moldova Mr. Nikolay Gumenny, and GUAM Secretary General Ambassador Valery Chechelashvili.
